Awareness of adaptogens is infiltrating the mainstream from ancient stores of herbal wisdom, which in today’s social climate isn’t surprising; this special category of herbs can help harmonize the body’s reaction to emotional, physical and mental stress. The medicinal mushrooms in this formula are all adaptogens with immunomodulating properties, meaning they support a return to physiological balance. Mucuna pruriens is revered as a neuro-protective (protecting nerve cells) and nootropic (cognitive support) herb. Also referred to as the “dopamine bean,” mucuna contains natural L-DOPA, which passes the blood-brain barrier and converts to dopamine, helping our bodies to release more of the “happiness hormone” that connects us to our pleasure centers. Cacao, which has a long history as a ceremonial and ritual food in Mesoamerica, has the capacity to bring us into our heart centers and a state of more present awareness, acting as both a gentle stimulant (energy/focus) and promoter of physical relaxation. Cacao is also known as a mood-enhancer that connects us to our experience of pleasure. Raw local honey from Nevada County can also support immunity and is rich in antioxidants that are protective on a cellular level.
With a flavor profile that is rich, chocolatey and earthy (perfectly balanced with a sweet dose of honey), try it on toast, blended into your coffee/hot tonic, as frosting, or simply enjoy by the spoon!
Shelf life: consume within 3 months of opening and store in a cool, dark area; refrigeration is not necessary but does extend the expiration date by 3 months!
Warning: Consult with a healthcare provider prior to use if pregnant or lactating. Honey should never be given to babies under one year old.
Allergen information: Contains dairy. However, the traditional process of making ghee (extra clarified butter) entails heating butter so that the milk solids (lactose + casein) are not just separated, but caramelized and removed. Many people who are otherwise dairy-free find solace in ghee.
